Surprising super hero

Hey Bloggers! How are you? In class at the moment, seeing as the year is coming to an end we are getting creative tasks and one of these was to create a superhero, I have so many more ideas for this task but I chose this idea. Meet Magma whose planet was destroyed by a wormhole and she now lives on earth:

This task was so much fun!! I'll be posting another task today so keep a lookout for that! Can you help me improve my hero? I'm begging you, please tell me.

Neat nets!

Kia ora Bloggers! How are you? Recently in math, my teacher came up with a super fun challenge where we had to create packaging for chocolate. The teacher went around and gave us a small package of assorted chocolate. When we then opened it, I received mini Cadbury milk chocolate bars. Next, we had to design a net that could fit our chocolate inside it. Here's my net:

I then made it up and tied it up with a ribbon and this is what it looked like:

This challenge was super fun and I would love to do it again. Do you know what the shape I used is called? Have a brilliant day.

Cool Ki O'rahi!

Kia ora Bloggers!! I know this is the third post today but have more to share. As you hopefully know by now, I have been looking at NZ culture and this involved taking a look at an old kiwi game called Ki O'rahi! This game is super fun to play and I put together a slide show with my friend to show you how to play...

I hope you liked it. Tell me if there was anything to change and make sure you give the game a go!
See you later Bloggers!

Helpful hangi poster!

Hey Bloggers!! What are you up to? If you saw my previous post you will know that we have recently been looking at Maori culture and part of Maori culture is a hangi, a hangi is essentially a huge meal that cooked underground. Almost like a barbeque but underground. We had to make a poster describing how the hangi has changed. My poster is a little bit- messy so I will type out what it says here then put a picture of the poster underneath.

Traditional hangi

The traditional hangi consists of a large hole in the ground filled with red hot rocks that were heated earlier. On top of these rocks, you place baskets filled with food. Next, you cover them with wet sacks then cover the sacks with the earth. Overall this entire process can take 7-8 1/2 hours (Including cook time) This is a long time to wait for a meal.

Modern hangi

The modern hangi takes a lot less time to prepare and way less effort saving you time, plus you are guaranteed a good mvveal. Overall technology has improved the way we create hangi making it more efficient

~

What do you think of my poster? Have you ever eaten a hangi?
Have a good day.

Past vs present

Kia ora bloggers!! How are you all? I haven't posted in a while so I apologize for that. For inquiry this term we are looking at countries, so to start off the term we are taking a look at New Zealand's culture, heritage, and traditions. Maori culture includes things like ideas, customs, and behavior this includes things like waiatas, hangi, etc. Heritage is things like our marae and ferns and our traditions are things like Matariki and hakas.

For this task we were given 3 slides to fill in, writing things about Tā moko, Korowai, and Kapa haka. A Tā moko is a traditional Maori tattoo, a Korowai is a cloak and kapa haka is a war dance of sorts. We had to describe how the tools, the design, and the usage has changed over time. This slide shows all of these changed.

Can you list at least one of each of the changes over time? Make sure you comment to give me feedback and tell me what you thought of the slide.
Haere rā!!

Its not rocket science

Kia ora bloggers! How are you today? Recently in class, we have been looking at building and flying rockets out of plastic bottles. Our prototypes went really far but we only came third with our final model as the weights weren't evenly distributed. Our team name was b.u.s.h. and I was in a team of six with my friends, Pandora, Zara, Isabella, Sophia and Olivia. We were told to make a video to show our team but ours isn't finished, I will post the finished video when it's done. We needed to learn about newtons three laws so my question for today is, do you know what newtons three laws are? Have a brilliant day!

P: They overhear their parents talking about a present

A: Carmel assumes its for her she asks everyone if they know what her present is/ boasts about it

R: after asking everyone in town she sits down in despair

Perfect parachutes

Hey Bloggers! How are you? Imma give you a real quick rundown on what we are doing at the moment.

We got to make parachutes out of some scrap fabric, string etc. we had to lower nuts down on the parachute and get the slowest time. Me and my group got 2.01s which was really good! We also had really great air control. Although we didn't win we did really well. I will post a photo later, my device is gonna die ;w;

What would you do if you were told to make a parachute?

See ya later! -Zoe-

Interesting IPARC

Hey Bloggers! It feels like forever! At the moment in literacy, we are taking a look at children's stories by doing things such as researching authors and looking at differences and similarities between them or watching videos and breaking down conventions. I am really enjoying it and our end product will hopefully be a children's book of our own creation. We had to write an IPARC on a children's book of our choosing (An IPARC stands for intro, problem, action, resolution and conclusion. I wrote one about goldilocks then got a bit carried away by nitpicking. Anywho here it is!

I: Goldilocks is going for a walk in the woods without parental supervision and no way to contact home.
P: Goldilocks, gets hungry and walks into a random house in the middle of the woods because that's smart.
A: She eats porridge that may have been sitting on the bench for days, breaks a child's chair which means she must be very heavy as she is also a child and sleeps in a random strangers bed.
R: It turns out to be a bears house? and she gets woken abruptly from her nap in a random strangers bed.
C: The bears chase her out and make her run away into the forest with no way to get home or call for help because they ate her porridge even though they are bears and have no apparent way to cook or eat the porridge.

As I said I started nitpicking. Can you give me a brief IPARC on a book you have read? See you next time.

Fancy Film Noir (I dunno I'm running out of names)

Hey Bloggers! Are you having a good day? I hope so! Anywho, in literacy, we got to write a film noir plot, I will be back for more details but here's what I've written so far,

The inheritance

A casino in NYC, the constant chatter and hum of people talking and the sound of jazz spilling from the instruments onto the floor. The sound of rain is barely audible over everything else. The busy traffic drowned out completely by dangerous arguments breaking out and the whoops and cheers of the lucky winners.

The owner of one of the richest casinos in NYC has been found dead underneath a bar stool with no sign of bullets.  The owner's niece (who works as a bartender) hires A P.I to investigate. The investigator is quickly falling for the niece when at the same time he's coming to a conclusion that only she could have done it. When confronted by the P.I she convinces him to keep her secret (She wanted his money). The P.I's assistant soon becomes suspicious and does some investigating himself. He quickly pulls the scam apart, instead of confronting the P.I the assistant tries to kill him, the assistant catches him as he's packing his bags to go on the run with Charlotte, Percy shoots him in the chest but the P.I manages to shoot him in the back in his last moments. Charlotte finds him and mourns for weeks then finally

Percy Cantree (Assistant) was very honest as a child (maybe too much so) had an above average I.Q. naturally people teased him for both of these. Being shunned to the side by everyone he found Frank (P.I.) who took him in and treated him like a normal person.

Frank Alexandra is a self-assured detective who has always had a knack at solving mysteries, he has a very hard personality except for when it comes to women, he always lets them have whatever they want. As a child, he never had much money and was never allowed to do much more than go to school. But as soon as he leaves home he discovers his true passion after solving who stole his grandma's purse. 5yrs later his business is going strong when a young man goes by the name of Percy Cantree.

Charlotte Acker's family were always the lowest of the low except for his uncle who had somehow procured seemingly unlimited amounts of money. Charlotte was generally a nice child but could stand up for herself when needed. She soon got herself a job at her uncle's casino and found out that he was illegally procuring the money that he needed to keep his casino afloat and greatly underpaying her. He was going to get caught eventually so Charlotte decided it would be easier and more rewarding to do it herself, inheriting the money was just a perk.

Uncle Alexander T. Rifthold was a dodgy kid from the start, stealing cigars and hot-wiring cars, there was no particular reason for this, he had nice and fair parents who always did their best. He was just one of those kids.

She glided into my office seemingly silent then slammed her perfectly manicured hand onto my old oak desk, a thick layer of dust rising from the top. She bared her pristine white teeth, snarling,  her green sea glass eyes turned to thin slits, this was the first time I'd ever seen her lose control yet she still looked radiant.
"You sold us out didn't you- you little worm!" She growled stuttering out of pure rage, her usually silky voice rough and harsh. She grabbed the front of my ironed shirt and shook it. Hard. Before I could say anything she lifted one of her hands and slapped me across the face. I lifted my own blistered hand and touched my face, where she hit me burning like fire. Before she could do it again I threw my hands against the side of my desk and sent me and the chair I was sitting on, flying into the wall.
"What on earth are you talking about?" Was all I managed to say, still in pure shock.
"Oh, don't you lie to me, I trusted you and of course you stabbed me in the back!" Her voice though a little confused, still full of rage.
She picked up my favourite mug with an iron grip and strutted over to the wall my chair was backed against and tipped the steaming coffee over my white shirt. Before she could do any more damage I started to explain. Everything.

Wow, that's a lot! Haha, um anyways I realise that a lot of it is not finished but I hope you like it anyway!
Give me some feedback. Have a great day!

Super space!

Hey Bloggers! How are you all? I haven't posted in AGES, I hope you had a super holiday. Anyways for inquiry this term we are taking a look at space and rockets so the teachers gave us a tic-tac-toe sheet to complete. Each square had an activity to do with space or science, I chose to create a space landscape, I created my own planet. Here it is!!
It's pretty basic but I enjoyed making it. Can you please give me a name? Have a great day.

Promising problems!

Hey Bloggers! In math today we took a look at solving algebra problems backwards. It is really simple to do and make solving the problems easy to do. Firstly you need to gather what information the problem has given you, you then change everything to the opposite equation e.g. + to -visa versa. Here's a video to show you the basics of it! MATH! I got challenged to create a word problem using this technique here it is!
The baker sold 15 cakes in the morning and 26 at lunch. He also sold 5 cupcakes to younger children. In the afternoon he sold 13. How many cakes did the baker make? Did get it? Tell me the answer in the comments! Have a great day!

Marvellous Matariki

Hey Bloggers! For the past two weeks, we have been reviewing the Matariki constellation. After this, we got given a list of tasks that we could complete, we only had to do one so me and a group of my friends chose to make a sock puppet show depicting a Matariki story. Making the sock puppets were really fun but filming was sorta challenging. Here it is!

Do you like it? The overall everything isn't great but we still had fun! I hope you enjoyed it.

Horrific horror

Hey Bloggers! How are you? For the last week, we have been looking at the conventions of horror and we got challenged to make an intro to a horror story. I'm not a huge fan of horror so this wasn't very fun but I tried... Here it goes!

I stared down the dark suffocating hallway, my friends edging me on, back in the comforting light of my own bedroom. Was this really a good idea? Taking that stupid dare, I exhale sharply and start down the pitch-black hallway one foot in front of the other, my body betraying my mind. I open the bathroom door with a loud creaking and step slowly inside, the hard tile cold on my bare feet. I look down at the small mirror sitting on the basin and pick it up, I stare into the mirror, looking back at me is, of course, my own reflection, lilac pyjamas and all. I let out a long sigh of relief and chuckle to myself, of course, there's nothing there, I look back down at the mirror and grin, the reflection doesn't. I quickly drop it and back toward the door, I'm only a few feet away when it slams shut so hard that one of the windows shatters onto the floor. I look back at the small mirror but it's gone, I suddenly feel something cold in my hand, I look down and find that the brass mirror is sitting in my palm. My reflection smirks and reaches out toward me. The last thing I hear is my own scream before everything is gone.

Yeah... as I said this isn't my strong suit but I still tried to have fun with it. I feel I probably could have done a better job on this but I hope you enjoy!

Awesome ASCII

Hey bloggers! Today we are learning about Binary and ASCII.

Binary is a number system that uses 1’s and 0’s to represent all of our normal set of numbers.  You can use the place values as multiples of 2 to work out how to do it for yourself!  Try watching this video to give it a go yourself!

ASCII is a set of encoded symbols that a computer uses to turn Binary into letters and other symbols from the English language (like what is on our keyboard).  I turned my initials into binary numbers, and then turned those binary numbers into an ASCII code!  Using colours to represent the 1’s and 0’s, my initials in ASCII can be represented by the pattern you see in my images below!

Do you know how to write in code? Have a fantabulous day!

Wacky websites

Kia ora bloggers, What are you up to today? A couple of days ago my literacy group finished our Wonderful Wizard of Oz websites. We had to choose 3 themes, symbols and characters. We used google sites to make these creating a page for each topic, there were workshops for characters or themes if we needed a refresh on them. This is my finished site:
This was quite an interesting experience, we had to use an essay format on a webpage I didn't have any major issues though so overall it was quite fun. Have you read the wizard of oz? If so then who's your favourite character? Have a fabulous day!

Giant global issues

Kia ora bloggers! How are you on this fabulous day? A couple of days ago we had to choose a piece of art that reflected a global issue, I chose one that reflects the media. We then had to write a couple of paragraphs describing what the image shows. This is my one.

I read it now and realise that it sounds sort of like some wacky conspiracy against the media but... Anyways I had a lot of thoughts whilst writing this and I think the image strongly represents our media today. What's an issue you feel passionate about? Thank you for reading! See ya next time.

Creative Korus

Kia ora bloggers! What are you doing at the moment? Today in class we got to finish off our segment on korus then we got to use a website called adobe spark to create a presentation on the process of the koru making. Heres mine.

What do you think? I apologise for my voice, I'm just gonna blame it on my braces... Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this video. Have a fantastic day, do you own a bone carving? See you next time.

Interesting Irony

Kia ora bloggers! How are you? Yesterday in class we dove a bit deeper into irony, we learnt that there are three different types of it, dramatic irony, situational irony and verbal irony. We learnt that showing irony means showing the opposite of what you expect. We then watched a couple of videos and after that, we were challenged to create a comic displaying irony so me and my friend made this comic here.

This was really fun, as you can see we made good usage of the space around us. If we had more time I would probably make sure the image quality was a bit better, other than that I really like this! Can you list the three kinds of irony? This is my friend's blog, Pandoras blog. Have a fantastic day!

Kooky korus

Hey Bloggers! How are you? For our Maori, we have been focusing on koru art and the meanings behind them. Over the last week, we have been drawing our own koru art, this is my finished product.
First, we sketched our ideas and then we had to outline them with a sharpie, next we coloured them with pastels. After this, we dyed the background. Do you like koru art? Have a great day. -Zoe-

Marvellous mathematics.

Hey Bloggers!
This week in maths we have been looking at angles and polygons. We have been discovering the interior angles of a shape, as well as drawing shapes with a compass- not a North/South compass but a pair of compasses that you draw circles with. Here's a rundown of my knowledge of this.

Here is some of the work I have done on angles.

Have you ever had to draw something other than a circle with a compass? Here's a link on how to draw the star- STAR
Have a great day.

Marvellous mashup.

Kia ora Bloggers! I hope you all had A great first week in level 2. Have things gone back to normal for you? I'm back to school and a lot has happened so I'm going to give you a rundown of my week. First of all, literacy, as you know I have been focusing on the wizard of oz so we have been challenged to create a website to display our learning, we have to include 3 characters, 3 different themes and 3 symbols. So far I have finished 2 characters and am still working on everything else so I can't give it a reflection but here's the home page:
Now for numeracy, we have been looking at angles and I have been creating a poster that lists the rules of angles I haven't finished that either but I can list some of them here:
Angles on a line add up to 180°
Angles around a point add up to 360°
Opposite angles are equal
That's only a couple of them, I hope you enjoyed my blog post. Can you list the rest of the angle rules? See you next time.

Ridiculous rooms.

Hey Bloggers! Today I had a super fun challenge to complete, I had to design and create my dream bedroom in a diorama. At first, I thought about using my scrapbooking supplies but then I came up with a better idea, in my house, we have a lot of lego, so I made my dream room out of lego! Here it is.
What do you think? Please give me feedback in the comments! I think next time I'll probably do a wallpaper but other than that I'm quite happy with this. I hope you have a fantastic day.

Cool Colours!

Hey Bloggers! Sorry I haven't posted in a while, today I had some fun with an application called Colour pusher, I will put the link somewhere, but anyway you have 90 seconds to draw something and it mixes all the colours together to create abstract art. Here are a couple of mine!

Now before you say that anyone could do this check out this video: Abstract art. This was super fun, if I did this again I would try out one of the cool features they have. This is the website: Colour push. Tell me in the comments if you tried it out! Did you like it? Anyways have a great day.

Interesting animals

Hey bloggers, happy Friday! Today we got to create an animal fusion, we had to think about things like originality, I really enjoyed this!
My creature is called a Butterlope, its a mixture of a jackalope (a mythical creature), a butterfly, a penguin and a fish. If you made a magical creature what would it be a fusion of? Have a great day!

Lit literacy.

Hi Bloggers, welcome back! How have you been? Here in NZ our quarantine level has now dropped down to level 3! Today in literacy we took a look at the theme home, after discussing it we had to answer a few questions, here are my answers.

Why did Oz never feel like home to the wizard? Why did it never feel like home to Dorothy?
I think oz never felt like home to the wizard and Dorothy because it wasn't where they came from, it felt new and uncertain, they never knew whether they were safe. The wizard felt like he had to become somebody else to fit in and Dorothy was super unsure of everything.

Dorothy travels a long way just to end up back where she started. Do you think she'd call her journey pointless? Why or why not?
I don't think Dorothy's journey was pointless as she grew as a person, she discovered her likes and dislikes, she also helped others discover themselves. She discovered that she was a born leader, I don't think she had gotten that chance on the farm. She also made lots of friends and found a second family.

Those are my answers! I quite enjoyed writing those out actually, it was really fun. What's your favourite thing to do at home?

Cowardliness vs courage.

Hey bloggers, as you know we are focusing on the wizard of oz in literacy and today we had to describe what we think it means to have courage. Here is my answer to the question.
"ℂ𝕠𝕦𝕣𝕒𝕘𝕖 𝕚𝕤 𝕟𝕠𝕥 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕒𝕓𝕤𝕖𝕟𝕔𝕖 𝕠𝕗 𝕗𝕖𝕒𝕣, 𝕓𝕦𝕥 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕥𝕣𝕚𝕦𝕞𝕡𝕙 𝕠𝕧𝕖𝕣 𝕚𝕥". Super circles.

Hey Bloggers, today for maths we had a look at circles, I never knew that they had so many different parts! we had to create a piece of art using circles, it was really fun. Here's the finished product.

Can you list all the different parts of a circle? I will put the answers in the next blog post, but I'll give you a hint, there are 8. Have a great day! -Zoe-

Dazzling Dorothy .

Hey Bloggers, today I created a piece of collage artwork based on the wizard of oz, first I had to draw my outline image, then I had to find stuff to fill it with, this wasn't hard as I love scrapbooking. Heres the final outcome.
Sorry its turned sideways. What do you think? Have a great day.

Surprising similarity.

Hi Bloggers, today for literacy I had to list some movies or books that are similar to The wizard of oz this is was I came up with.

Alice in wonderland - Both movies have young female protagonists who suddenly find themselves in curious magical worlds, both young heroines go on a magical quest to find their way home making dangerous enemies.

Chronicles of Narnia - In both books the main characters find themselves in a new magic land filled with curious talking creatures (Lions) and they find themselves the greatest enemy of an evil witch.

Peter pan - In both movies, we have young characters who find themselves in a new magic world, they make good friends who are both magical and normal (well not normal), in both stories they have a loyal and lovable dog, both movies also have a very angry antagonist.

Can you think of any other books or movies that are similar to The wizard of oz? Have a great day.
